6 Thursdays from 6:00pm-9:00pm, starting October 15th, 2020 via Zoom
If you’re a cisgender fiction writer who wants to do their best job with their transgender or nonbinary character, this course will provide you with best approaches to the craft and representing your character, proper research techniques, feedback on relevant excerpts, and a stronger knowledge of the transgender/nonbinary community. This six-week class includes craft lessons, workshops, readings, and exercises to give cisgender students a rich understanding of writing transgender and nonbinary characters, as well as direct and active feedback on students’ relevant excerpts, plot points, and/or novel outlines. Lessons will include tropes, character arcs, PoV, endings, research, sensitivity readers, avoiding (and handling) backlash, and more. Resources about writing the marginalized may include C. Riley Snorton, C.N. Lester, Peter Ho Davies, and more. Don’t be shy! This course was designed to encourage cisgender fiction writers at any stage in their writing process to do their best and help them better connect with themselves and the trans/nonbinary worlds around them.
